What we don’t usually do is drop knowledge about Dodge brand cars and their company. And while we stand by their quality and dependability, we might not always know the full story behind a brand. Speaking of dependability, did you know that Dodge

1.    Might have invented the word “dependability.”

Advertising and PR are the devices that make the professional world go around, and while they’re at it, the wind up adding some pretty useful words into the global lexicon. The story goes, that in 1914, Dodge PR guy Theodore MacManus thought that the word “dependable” lacked a certain oomph as an adjective. So he gave it a spin as a noun, and the word made it into the campaign.

For clarity, the Oxford English Dictionary cites the first occurrence of the word “dependability” being used in 1901, but it was never in a major print campaign with such an extreme degree of visibility until MacManus.

2.    But they did invent winterization!

In 1914, Dodge released a vehicle that was especially-designed to brave the winter chill. The automobile featured a removable top and snap-on side glass panels to enclose the driver and passenger, protecting them from the cold.

3.    The Dodge Viper had its own TV show in the 1990s.

You read that right – back in 1994, the hype for the Dodge Viper was so real it got its own TV series. It was about the iconic sports car and its driver waging a vigilante war on crime, and it was every bit as wonderful as it sounds.

With such a rich and eccentric history, it’s no wonder that Dodge has become a brand that Americans love and depend on. Come into Shaver Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM & FIAT today and see what Dodge vehicles we have for you to try out!
