Its optional leather interior and a wide variety of stand-out colors made it an iconic vehicle that muscle car enthusiasts everywhere. And with a 426 HEMI® engine, the 1970 Charger was able to crank out 425 horsepower with 490 ft-lb of torque.
However, as times have changed, Dodge has continued to make the most menacing stock cars on the road. When the 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was released, it came stock with a 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine, which launches down the track with a blistering 840 horsepower and a neck-breaking 717 lb-ft of torque. It goes 0-60 in 2.3 seconds, and Dodge claims the Demon run do a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds, with absolutely no modifications. This is a car designed to break records as soon as it rolls off the line.
While the old pro might not have won the day against its young punk challenger, that latter Dodge Challenger wouldn’t have been sitting there alongside it were it not for the accomplishments in the field of racing from the former.
