FCA US LLC Invests in the Future with Self-Driving Cars

September 16th, 2018 by

There’s no real way around it: self-driving cars are securing a firmer foothold on the consumer vehicle market. Knowing this, FCA US LLC is making some big changes to their proving grounds in Chelsea, MI. Seventy miles west of Detroit, vehicles like the Dodge Challenger and the RAM 1500 get put through their paces in a massive 4,000-acre complex to ensure that they’re in the best condition possible for our customers. And with a new investment of thirty million dollars to the facility, they plan utilizing 35 acres of the grounds to create an entirely new branch dedicated to making self-driving versions of the already amazing vehicles it’s famous for.

The Car Connection reports that FCA isn’t pulling any stops here: the facility has planned to include a track to help develop high-speed self-driving cars, a safety feature demonstration center, real-world infrastructure replicates to simulate the tricky driving problems posed by every day commutes (such as tunnels, lighted intersections, and highway on- and off-ramps), and a command center to oversee it all. It’s not far off either – FCA is moving in later this month.

While it may not be a big thing right now, Shaver Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM is always excited to see the next big thing in transportation. And even after we all get self-driving cars, we’ll be here at our auto dealership in Thousand Oaks, CA to provide you with the greatest selection of new and certified pre-owned vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee or the Chrysler 300. Our dedicated staff will guide you through the buying or trade-in process, and our squad of certified mechanics will make sure that your new vehicle is always in top shape. So come in today and test drive the car of your dreams today, and just imagine what tomorrow could bring.
